Show #15–Kathleen Bowie – Newborn Photographer

Host Mike Howard and Tim Kemperle are joined for Show #15 by Kathleen Bowie of Kathleen Bowie Photography.  Kathleen has been a professional photographer for 9 years focused on people photography, including newborns.  And yes she has added the music back to her site, which I really enjoyed listening to it while writing these notes.  Thank you Kathleen.

We had a three news stories for Show #15.

  • Shots with a Canon Mark 5d II.
  • Favorite lens is the 50mm f/1.4, but also uses the 24-105
  • She got started shooting weddings where she would “cross my fingers and hope for the best”
  • Facebook opened up a new world for her by allowing her to easily see other photographers work.
  • She improved her skill by taking a lot of photos and asking people she trusted for their honest opinion.
  • She tries to limit the number of photo session per month to 3 or 4 and at first struggled with the thought of turning down business.
  • She prefers the newborns be 10 days old, or less and a newborn photo session generally last 3-4 hours.
  • As a natural light photographer, she tries to time her shoots around the sun, but also must take into account the “happy time” of the child.
  • Dad’s can be an issue at times.  Come on Dad’s, we can do better!
  • Her main printer is White House Custom Color
  • She also gives out a CD of the images with a printing release, retaining the copyright of course.
  • Kathleen work’s with a local charity called Pregnancy Resource Center of Gwinnett.
