Show #6–Exposure

Host Mike Howard is once again joined by Tim Kemperle for a “back to the basics” discussion about Exposure.

We will be posting a more complete post at a later date covering Exposure, but for now here are the basics discussed in the show.

Exposure is made up primarily of three components, from the camera’s perspective.  Those are:

  • Aperture
  • Shutter Speed
  • ISO

Below is a small vide shown during the podcast to demonstrate the changing of the aperture ring on a lens.

Example of Aperture ring

The guys used multiple images during the show and below are are a few of them used to display the impact on DOF when changing the f/stop (aperture).

By using the histogram and the “blinkies” on the back of the camera, you can make a decent judgment of the exposure as the guys demonstrated with some of the images below:

Shutter speed not only impacts how much action is frozen in the image, but also how much of your own shacking is eliminated.  The guys used these images are part of the discussion on shutter speed.

The last part of the discussion was about ISO and the impact on noise.  Below are some of the images the guys used during this part of the discussion.
